FROM COBURG TO ITALY AND BACK AGAIN

Our Story
Polpa Pizza is built on more than a love for good food.
it’s part of a family story shaped by generations, traditions, and countless shared meals.
When my family migrated from South Italy to Melbourne, they opened and ran a local pizza shop in Coburg on Gaffney Street from 1972 to 1980.
The shop was called Da Tony, a name inherited from the previous owners that, according to family legend, my father simply never bothered changing.
After selling the pizzeria in the early 1980s, my family moved back to Italy, to the Amalfi Coast in the south, where pizza remained at the centre of family life.
My grandfather built a woodfire oven on our terrace, where friends and family would gather on warm summer evenings to share homemade pizza, stories, and time together.
I grew up in that atmosphere — where pizza was never just food, but a reason to connect.

Today, Polpa Pizza continues that tradition with my own philosophy honoring where we come from while embracing creativity, fresh ingredients, and a modern approach to hospitality.
